Being Free to Love
Jesus came to us to help us overcome our fear of God.
As long as we are afraid of God, we cannot love God.
Love means intimacy, closeness, mutual vulnerability, and a deep sense of safety.
But all of those are impossible as long as there is fear.
Fear creates suspicion, distance, defensiveness, and insecurity.
The greatest block in the spiritual life is fear.
Prayer, meditation, and education cannot come forth out of fear.
God is perfect love, and as John the Evangelist writes, "Perfect love drives out fear" (1John 4:18).
Jesus' central message is that God loves us with an unconditional love and desires our love, free from all fear, in return.
거리낌 없이 사랑하기
예수는 우리가 하나님을 두려워하는 것에서 벗어나도록 돕기 위해서 우리에게 오셨습니다.
우리가 하나님을 무서워하는 한, 우리는 하나님을 사랑할 수 없습니다.
사랑은 친밀감, 가까움, 상호간에 존재하는 약함, 그리고 깊은 안정감을 의미합니다.
그러나 두려움이 있는 한 그 모든 것은 불가능합니다.
두려움은 의심과 거리감, 자기 방어와 불안정감을 만들어 냅니다.
영적인 생활의 가장 큰 걸림돌은 두려움입니다.
기도와 묵상, 그리고 훈련은 두려움으로부터 나올 수 없습니다.
하나님은 완전한 사랑이시기에 복음서 기자 요한이 썼듯이 “완전한 사랑은 두려움을 몰아냅니다”(요한1서 4:18).
예수가 전한 중심 멧시지는 하나님께서 우리를 조건 없는 사랑으로 사랑하시고 모든 두려움에서 자유로운 우리의 사랑을 되받기를 바라신다는 것입니다.
