첫날처럼The Authority of Compassion
The Church often wounds us deeply.
People with religious authority often wound us by their words, attitudes, and demands.
Precisely because our religion brings us in touch with the questions of life and death, our religious sensibilities can get hurt most easily.
Ministers and priests seldom fully realize how a critical remark, a gesture of rejection, or an act of impatience can be remembered for life by those to whom it is directed.
There is such an enormous hunger for meaning in life, for comfort and consolation, for forgiveness and reconciliation, for restoration and healing, that anyone who has any authority in the Church should constantly be reminded that the best word to characterize religious authority is compassion.
Let's keep looking at Jesus, whose authority was expressed in compassion.
"체휼" 이라는 권위
교회는 종종 우리에게 깊은 상처를 줍니다.
종교적 권위가 부여된 사람들은 그들의 말과 태도, 그리고 요구로 인해 종종 우리들에게 상처를 줍니다.
정확히 말하면 우리가 믿는 기독교는 우리로 하여금 삶과 죽음이라는 문제와 만나도록 만들기 때문에, 우리들의 종교적 감수성은 아주 쉽게 손상되는 것입니다.
목사들과 사제들이라고 해서 그들이 행한 비판적인 언사나, 거절의 몸짓, 또는 성급한 행동들이 당사자들에게 어떻게 일평생동안 기억 될 수 있는지 충분히 이해할 수 있는 것은 아닙니다.
사람들에게는 삶의 의미, 위로와 위안, 용서와 화해, 회복과 치유에 대한 너무도 큰 목마름이 있기에, 교회에서 어떤 종교적 권위를 가진 사람이라면 누구든지 ‘그 권위의 성격을 가장 잘 표현할 수 있는 말은 바로 ‘체휼’ 이라는 것‘임을 항상 명심해야할 것입니다.
우리는 자신의 권위를 체휼로 표현하셨던 예수를 항상 바라보아야 합니다.
