The Saints Who Live Short Lives
As we see so many people die at a young age, through wars, starvation, AIDS, street violence, and physical and emotional neglect, we often wonder what the value of their short lives is.
It seems that their journeys have been cut off before they could reach any of their goals, realize any of their dreams, or accomplish any of their tasks.
But, short as their lives may have been, they belong to that immense communion of saints, from all times and all places, who stand around the throne of the Lamb dressed in white robes proclaiming the victory of crucified Christ (see revelation 7:9)
The story of the innocent children murdered by King Herod in his attempt to destroy Jesus (see Matthew 2:13-18), reminds us that saintliness is not just for those who lived long and hardworking lives.
These children, and many others who died young, are as much witness to Jesus as those who accomplished heroic deeds.
짧은 생애를 사는 성도들
수많은 사람들이 전쟁, 굶주림, 후천성 면역 결핍증, 거리의 폭력, 그리고 육체적 정서적 방치에 의해서 이른 나이에 세상을 떠나는 것을 보게 될 때, 우리는 종종 그들의 짧은 생애가 어떤 가치가 있기는 한지 궁금히 여길 것입니다.
그들의 인생 여정은 어떤 목표점 하나에 도달할 수 있기도 전에, 어떤 꿈 하나 실현할 수 있기도 전에, 또는 어떤 일 하나 끝낼 수 있기도 전에 꺾여 버린 것만 같습니다.
그들의 생애가 짧았다고 할 수는 있겠지만, 시대와 장소를 통틀어 그들도 또한 십자가에 달린 그리스도의 승리를 외치며, 흰 옷 입은 어린 양의 보좌에 둘러선 광대한 성도들의 교제에 속해 있습니다. (계 7:9 참고)
헤롯이 예수를 없애버리기 위해 무죄한 어린이들을 죽인 이야기는(마태 2:13-18 참고), 바로 "성도됨"이 오래 살면서 열심히 일했던 사람들에게만 해당되는 것은 아니라는 것을 일깨워줍니다.
이런 어린이들, 그리고 이른 나이에 세상을 떠난 많은 다른 사람들도 영웅적인 업적을 이루어낸 사람들과 똑같은 예수의 증인입니다.

맑은그늘
예수 그리스도의 재림이 정말로 진심으로(비록 이 글을 읽는 순간이더라도) 기다려지게 하는 글이네요.
하나님을 향한 영적 스승들은 내가 생각하지 못한 것들을 생각해 주고, 고민해 주는 것.... 얼마나 감사한지 모르겠습니다.
