The Fruit of Our Communal Life
Our society encourages individualism.
We are constantly made to believe that everything we think, say, or do is our personal accomplishment, deserving individual attention.
But as people who belong to the communion of saints, we know that anything of spiritual value is not the result of individual accomplishment but the fruit of a communal life.
Whatever we know about God and God's love, whatever we know about Jesus-his life, death, and resurrection-whatever we know about the Church and its ministry, is not the invention of our minds asking for an award.
It is the knowledge that has come to us through the ages from the people of Israel and the prophets, from Jesus and the saints, and from all who have played roles in the formation of our hearts.
True spiritual knowledge belongs to the communion of saints.
우리들의 공동체적 삶의 열매
우리 사회는 개인주의를 조장합니다.
끊임없이 우리는 생각하고 말하고 행하는 모든 것이 개인적으로 이룬 것이며, 개인적인 주목을 끌만한 것일 뿐이라고 믿게끔 되어 갑니다.
그러나 성인들의 교제에 속한 사람들로서, 우리는 영적인 가치를 가지는 그 무엇도 개인적으로 이룬 결과가 아니라, 공동체적 삶의 열매라는 것을 압니다.
하나님에 관해서, 또한 하나님의 사랑에 관해서 그 무엇을 알든 간에, 예수에 관해서 그 무엇을 알든 간에 - 그의 삶, 죽음, 그리고 부활 - 그리고 교회와 사역에 관하여 그 무엇을 알든 간에, 이것은 우리 의식이 고안해 낸 것이 아니며, 그래서 보상을 요구할만한 것은 아니란 것입니다.
그 것은 이스라엘의 사람들과 예언자들로부터, 또한 예수와 성도들로부터, 그리고 우리들의 마음을 형성하는데 역할을 했던 모든 사람들로부터 수많은 세월을 거쳐서 우리에게 온 앎인 것입니다.
참된 영적인 앎은 성인들의 교제에 속해 있습니다.
