Our Unique Call
So many terrible things happen every day that we start wondering whether the few things we do ourselves make any sense.
When people are starving only a few thousand miles away, when wars are raging close to our borders, when countless people in our own cities have no homes to live in, our own activities look futile.
Such considerations, however, can paralyse us and depress us.
Here the word call becomes important.
We are not called to save the world, solve all problems, and help all people.
But each of us has our own unique call, in our families, in our work, in our world.
We have to keep asking God to help us see clearly what our call is and to give us the strength to live out that call with trust.
Then we will discover that our faithfulness to a small task is the most healing response to the illnesses of our time.
우리만의 특별한 부르심
매일 수많은 끔찍한 일들이 일어나면서 우리는 자신들이 하는 한정된 일들이 의미가 있기는 있을까 회의가 들기 시작합니다.
단지 수천 마일 떨어진 곳에서 사람들이 굶주리고 있고, 우리의 접경에서 전쟁의 광풍이 몰아치며, 우리가 사는 도시의 수많은 사람들이 살 집을 가지지 못할 때, 우리 자신들이 무언가를 한다는 것이 부질없어 보입니다.
그렇지만 그런 생각들은 우리를 무기력하게 하고 우울하게 만들 수 있습니다.
여기에서 “부름” 이라는 단어가 중요해집니다.
우리는 세상을 구원하거나, 모든 문제들을 해결하며, 모든 사람들을 도우라고 부름받은 것이 아닙니다.
오히려 우리들 각자에게는 우리의 가족들 속에서, 직장에서, 그리고 우리가 사는 세상에서 갖는 자신들만의 특별한 부름이 있습니다.
우리는 우리의 부름이 무엇인지 명확히 보는 것을 도와달라고, 신념을 가지고 그 부름을 따라 살아낼 수 있는 힘을 달라고 하나님께 끊임없이 요청해야 합니다.
그럴 때에야 우리가 작은 일에 충실하는 것이 바로 우리 시대의 아픔에 대한 가장 치유적인 응답임을 발견하게 될 것입니다.
