Bringing the Spirit Through Leaving
It is often in our absence that the Spirit of God manifests itself.
When Jesus left his disciples he said: "It is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, the Paraclete [the Spirit] will not come to you... However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth"(John 16:7;13).
It was only in Jesus' absence that his friends discovered the full meaning of his presence.
It was only in his absence that they completely understood his words and experienced full communion with him; and it was only in his absence that they could gather in a community of faith, hope and love.
When we claim for ourselves that we come to our friends in the Name of Jesus- that through us Jesus becomes present to them- we can trust that our leaving will also bring them the Spirit of Jesus.
Thus, not only our presence but also our absence becomes a gift to others.
성령을 가져다주는 떠남
하나님의 성령이 그 자신을 드러내시는 것은 흔히 우리가 떠나고 없을 때입니다.
예수께서 제자들을 떠나실 때, 그는 “내가 떠나는 것이 너희 자신들에게 좋다, 왜냐하면 내가 가지 않으면 협조자(성령)가 오시지 않을 것이기 때문이다... 그러나 진리의 성령께서 오시게될 때 그분은 너희를 완전한 진리로 이끌 것이다” 라고 말씀하셨습니다. (요 16:7,13)
예수가 떠나고 없을 때에서야 그의 벗들이 그의 존재의 완전한 의미를 알게 되었습니다.
그가 떠나고 없을 때에서야 그들은 그가 하신 말씀을 완전히 이해했고 그와 완전히 함께 함을 경험할 수 있었습니다; 또한 그가 떠나고 없을 때에서야 그들은 믿음과 희망, 그리고 사랑의 공동체로 모일 수 있었습니다.
예수의 이름으로 우리의 친구들에게 가는 것이라고 우리 스스로 확실히 말할 수 있을 때 - 즉 우리를 통해서 예수께서 그들에게 현존하게 될 때 - 우리가 떠나는 것 또한 그들에게 예수의 영을 가져다줄 것이라는 것을 믿을 수 있습니다.
그러므로 우리가 있는 것과 더불어 떠나는 것도 다른 사람들에게는 선물이 됩니다.
