The Garden of the Saints
The Church is a very human organization but also the garden of God's grace.
It is a place where great sanctity keeps blooming.
Saints are people who make the living Christ visible to us in a special way.
Some saints have given their lives in the service of Christ and his Church; others have spoken and written words that keep nurturing us; some have lived heroically in difficult situations; others have remained hidden in quiet lives of prayer and meditation; some were prophetic voices calling for renewal; others were spiritual strategists setting up large organizations or networks of people; some were healthy and strong; others were quite sick, and often anxious and insecure.
But all of them in their own ways lived in the Church as in a garden where they heard the voice calling them the Beloved and where they found the courage to make Jesus the centre of their lives.
성인들의 꽃밭
교회는 매우 인간적인 조직이지만 또한 하나님의 은혜의 꽃밭입니다.
그 곳은 위대한 신성의 거룩함이 지속적으로 활짝 피어나는 자리입니다.
성인들은 살아계시는 그리스도를 어떤 특별한 방식으로 우리에게 뚜렷이 보여주는 사람들입니다.
어떤 성인들은 그리스도와 교회를 섬기면서 자신의 삶을 바쳤고, 다른 성인들은 말과 글을 통해 지속적으로 우리를 살찌우는 말씀을 전했으며, 어떤 이들은 어려운 상황 속에서 영웅적인 삶을 살았고, 다른 이들은 은둔한 채로 고요히 기도와 묵상의 삶을 살았으며, 어떤 이들은 개혁을 요구하는 예언자적 음성의 사람들이었고, 다른 이들은 확장된 조직을 세우고 사람들 사이의 연대적 운동을 일으킨 영적인 전략가들이었으며, 어떤 이들은 건강하고 강했지만, 다른 이들은 상당히 연약했고, 종종 불안을 느끼거나 안정감이 없기도 했습니다.
그러나 그들 모두는 ‘너무나 사랑하는 자’ 라고 그들을 부르시는 음성을 들을 수 있는 곳, 그리고 예수를 그들의 삶의 중심으로 삼을 용기를 발견한 곳, 바로 교회에서의 삶을 마치 꽃밭에서처럼 자신들만의 방식으로 살았던 것입니다.
