Letting go of our fear of God
We are afraid of emptiness.
Spinoza speaks about "our horror vacui", our horrendous fear of vacancy.
We like to occupy - fill up - every empty time and space.
We want to be occupied.
And if we are not occupied, we easily become preoccupied; that is, we fill the empty spaces before we have even reached them.
We fill them with our worries, saying; "But what if..."
It is very hard to allow emptiness to exist in our lives.
Emptiness requires a willingness not to be in control, a willingness to let something new and unexpected happen.
It requires trust, surrender and openness to guidance.
God wants to dwell in our emptiness.
But as long as we are afraid of God's actions in our lives, it is unlikely that we will offer our emptiness to God.
Let's always pray that we can let go of our fear of God and embrace God as the source of all love.
하나님을 두려워함으로부터 벗어나기
우리는 비어있음을 두려워 합니다.
스피노자는 우리의 "horror vacui", 즉 공허함에 대한 우리의 끔찍한 두려움에 대하여 말합니다.
우리는 비어있는 모든 시간과 공간을 채우기를 좋아합니다.
우리는 채워지기를 원합니다.
그런데 만약 우리가 채워지지 못한다면, 우리는 쉽게 선점당하게 됩니다: 다시 말하면, 심지어 무언가를 채우려고 빈 공간에 닿기도 전에, 우리는 이미 그 곳을 채우고 있다는 말입니다.
우리는 그 빈 공간을 걱정으로 채우면서 "그런데 만약에... 이라면 어떡하지?" 라고 말합니다.
우리 삶에 비어있음이 존재할 수 있도록 하는 것은 매우 어렵습니다.
비어있음이 가능하려먼 무언가를 지배하지 않겠다는 자발성, 기대하지 않은 새로운 무언가가 일어나게끔 하는 자발성이 필요합니다.
비어있음은 인도하심에 대한 신뢰, 복종, 그리고 열려있음을 필요로 합니다.
하나님은 우리의 비어있음 속에 거하시기를 원하십니다.
그러나 우리가 하나님과 우리 삶 속에서 일어나는 그 분의 역사에 대해서 두려워하는 한, 하나님께 우리의 비어있음을 내어드린다는 것은 가능하지 않습니다.
우리가 하나님에 대한 두려움에서 떠날 수 있도록, 또한 하나님을 모든 사랑의 원천으로서 감싸안을 수 있도록 기도해야 합니다.

그리고 우리가 채워지지 않은 상태라면 우리는 쉽게 선점당하게 됩니다. 즉 우리가 심지어 빈 공간에 다다르기도 전에 우리는 그 것을 채운다는 말입니다.
Emptiness requires a willingness not to be in control, a willingness to let something new and unexpected happen.
비어있음은 조절되지 않은 상태에 있으려는 의지, 새롭고 기대하지 않았든 일의 발생을 허용하는 의지가 요구됩니다.
