Claiming the Identity of Jesus
When we think about Jesus as that exceptional unusual person who lived long ago and whose life and words continue to inspire us, we might avoid the realisation that Jesus wants us to be like him.
Jesus himself keeps saying in many ways that he, the Beloved Child of God, came to reveal to us that we too are God's beloved children, loved with the same unconditional divine love.
John writes to his people: "You must see what great love the Father has lavished on us by letting us be called God's children - which is what we are." (Ι John 3:1).
This is the great challenge of the spiritual life: to claim the identity of Jesus for ourselves and to say, " We are the living Christ today!"
예수의 진면목을 지니기
예수를 오래 전에 살았던 분으로 그의 삶과 말씀이 우리에게 지속적인 영감을 불어넣어주는 그런 예외적이고 흔치 않은 사람이라고 생각할 때, 예수께서 우리도 자신처럼 되기를 원하신다는 그 자각을 회피하게 될지도 모릅니다.
예수는 몸소 우리 또한 하나님의 사랑받는 자녀이며, 자신이 받는 것과 똑같은 조건 없는 신적인 사랑으로 사랑받는다는 것을 드러내 보여주기 위해서 하나님의 사랑하시는 아드님인 자신이 오셨다는 것을 끊임없이 여러 방법으로 말씀하셨습니다.
요한은 그의 사람들에게 이렇게 쓰고 있습니다: “여러분들은 아버지께서 우리가 하나님의 자녀로 - 하나님의 자녀라는 것은 바로 우리의 정체성입니다 - 불리는 것을 허락하심으로써 우리에게 쏟아 부으신 그 큰 사랑을 알아야 합니다 . (요한1서 3:1)
영적인 삶이 지닌 큰 과제는 이것 입니다: 우리 자신들이 몸소 예수의 진면목을 지니고 “우리는 오늘의 예수로서 살아간다” 고 말하는 것 말입니다.
