Parents' Grief
Many parents have to suffer the death of a child, at birth or at a very young age.
There probably is no greater suffering than losing a child, since it so radically interferes with the desire of a father and mother to see their child grow up to be a beautiful, healthy, mature and loving person.
The great danger is that the death of a child will take away the parents' desire to live.
It requires an enormous act of faith on the part of parents to truly believe that their children, however brief their lives, were given to them as gifts from God, to deepen and enrich their own lives.
Whenever parents can make that leap of faith their children's short lives can become fruitful far beyond their expectations.
부모들의 슬픔
많은 부모들은 자식이 갓 태어나서 죽거나, 혹은 너무 어린 나이에 세상을 떠나게 되는 것이 고통스러울 수밖에 없습니다.
그러한 죽음은 그 자녀들이 자라서 아름답고 건강하며 성숙하고 애정 깊은 사람이 되는 것을 보고 싶은 아버지와 어머니의 마음을 정말 뿌리부터 가로막아버리는 것이기 때문에, 아마도 자식을 잃는 것보다도 더 큰 고통은 없을 것입니다.
자식의 죽음이 부모의 삶의 의욕까지도 앗아가 버린다는 사실은 큰 위험입니다.
삶이 아무리 짧았다고 해도, 자녀들은 부모들의 삶이 깊어지고 풍성하게 하기 위해서 하나님께서 선물로 주신 것이라는 사실을 진정으로 믿는 것은 부모들 편에서는 막대한 신앙 행위를 필요로 합니다.
부모들이 그러한 신앙적인 도약을 할 수 있을 때 마다 그들의 자녀들이 살았던 짧은 삶은 부모들이 기대했던 것을 훨씬 넘어서 풍성히 열매를 맺게 될 것입니다.
