The Tears of the Father
The father in the story of the prodigal son suffered much.
He saw his younger son leave, knowing the disappointment, rejections and abuses facing him.
He saw his older son become angry and bitter, and was unable to offer him affection and support.
A large part of the father's life had been spent waiting.
He could not force his younger son to come home or his older son to let go of his resentments.
Only they themselves could take the initiative to return.
During these long years of waiting the father cried many tears and died many deaths.
He was emptied out by suffering.
But that emptiness created a place of welcome for his sons when the time of their return came.
We are called to become like that father.
아버지의 눈물
방탕한 아들의 이야기에 나오는 아버지는 많이 아파했습니다.
그는 작은 아들에게 장차 닥쳐올 낙담과 거절당함, 그리고 학대를 알았지만 그가 떠나는 것을 보고 있었습니다.
그는 큰 아들이 분노와 비통함을 느끼게 되는 것을 보고 있었으며, 그런 아버지에게 그 아들은 애정과 지지를 보내줄 수 없었습니다.
아버지는 삶의 상당한 부분을 기다림으로 보냈습니다.
그는 작은 아들에게 집으로 돌아오라고, 또는 큰 아들에게 분노를 없애라고 강요할 수 없었습니다.
돌아옴의 주도권은 오직 그들 자신들만이 가질 수 있었습니다.
이렇게 긴 기다림의 세월동안 아버지는 많은 눈물을 흘리며 울었고 수도 없이 죽었습니다.
그는 아픔으로 텅 비어버렸습니다.
그러나 그의 아들들이 돌아오는 시간이 왔을 때 그 텅 빈자리는 그들을 반갑게 맞이할 수 있는 공간이 되었습니다.
우리도 그 아버지와 같아지도록 부름을 받습니다.
