Reading Spiritually About Spiritual Things
Reading often means gathering information, acquiring new insight and knowledge, and mastering a new field.
It can lead us to degrees, diplomas and certificates.
Spiritual reading, however, is different.
It means not simply reading about spiritual things but also reading about spiritual things in a spiritual way.
That requires a willingness not just to read but to be read, not just to master but to be mastered by words.
As long as we read the Bible or a spiritual book simply to acquire knowledge, our reading does not help us in our spiritual lives.
We can become very knowledgeable about spiritual matters without becoming truly spiritual people.
As we read spiritually about spiritual things, we open our hearts to God's voice.
We must be willing to put down the book we are reading and just listen to what God is saying to us through its words.
영적인 것들에 대한 영적인 독서
독서는 흔히 정보를 모으고, 새로운 통찰력과 지식을 얻는 것, 그리고 새로운 분야에 정통하는 것을 의미합니다.
그렇게 해서 학위, 졸업장, 자격증을 획득할 수도 있습니다.
그러나 영적인 독서는 다릅니다.
그것은 영적인 것들을 읽는다는 것뿐만 아니라 영적인 방식으로 영적인 것들을 읽는다는 것 또한 의미합니다.
그렇게 하려면 말씀을 읽는 것 뿐 아니라 말씀이 우리를 읽도록, 또한 우리가 말씀에 정통하는 것 뿐 아니라, 말씀이 우리를 사로잡도록 기꺼이 마음을 여는 것이 필요합니다.
우리가 성서와 영적인 서적을 단순히 지식을 얻기 위해서만 읽는 한, 우리의 독서는 우리가 영적인 삶을 살도록 돕지 못합니다.
우리는 진정으로 영적인 사람이 되지 않고서도 영적인 것들에 대해서 매우 유식할 수 있습니다.
영적인 것들을 영적으로 읽을 때, 우리는 우리의 마음 중심을 하나님의 음성을 향해 열게 됩니다.
때로 우리는 읽던 책을 기꺼이 내려놓고 그 책의 말씀을 통하여 하나님께서 우리에게 말씀하고 계시는 것을 그냥 듣고만 있게 될 것이 분명합니다.
