The Sacrament of Unity
The Eucharist is the sacrament of unity.
It makes us into one body.
The apostle Paul writes: "As there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all share in the one loaf"(1 Corinthians 10:17).
The Eucharist is much more than a place where we celebrate our unity in Christ.
The Eucharist creates this unity.
By eating from the same bread and drinking from the same cup, we become the body of Christ present in the world.
Just as Christ becomes really present to us in the breaking of the bread, we become really present to one another as brothers and sisters of Christ, members of the same body.
Thus the Eucharist not only signifies unity but also creates it.
하나됨의 성례전
성만찬은 하나됨의 성례전입니다.
성만찬을 통해 우리는 하나의 몸이 됩니다.
사도 바울은 “한 덩이의 떡이 있는 것처럼, 다양하지만 우리가 하나의 단일한 몸인 것은, 우리 모두는 한 덩이의 떡을 같이 나누기 때문입니다”라고 씁니다. (고린도전서 10:17)
성만찬은 그리스도 안에서 우리가 하나 되는 것을 기념하는 자리 그 이상입니다.
성만찬은 이러한 하나됨을 만들어냅니다.
같은 떡과 잔으로부터 먹고 마심으로 우리는 세상에 현존하시는 그리스도의 몸이 됩니다.
떡을 뗄 때에 그리스도께서 우리에게 실제적인 존재가 되시듯, 우리도 서로에게 같은 몸의 지체들로서, 그리스도의 형제와 자매로서 실제적인 존재가 될 수 있습니다.
그러므로 성만찬은 하나됨을 뜻할 뿐 아니라 또한 그 하나됨을 만들어 냅니다.
