첫날처럼Saints, People Like Us
Through baptism we become part of a family much larger than our biological family.
It is a family of people "set apart" by God to be light in the darkness.
These set-apart people are called saints.
Although we tend to think about saints as holy and pious, and picture them with halos above their heads and ecstatic gazes, true saints are much more accessible.
They are men and women like us, who live ordinary lives and struggle with ordinary problems.
What makes them saints is their clear and unwavering focus on God and God's people.
Some of their lives may look quite different, but most of their lives are remarkably similar to our own.
The saints are our brothers and sisters, calling us to become like them.
성인들, 우리와 같은 사람들
세례를 통하여 우리는 생물학적인 가족보다도 더 큰 가족의 일원이 됩니다.
그 것은 어두움 속에서 빛이 되도록 하나님께서 “따로 구별한” 사람들로 구성된 가족입니다.
이렇게 따로 구별된 사람들을 성인들이라고 부릅니다.
우리는 그들을 거룩하고 신앙심이 깊은 사람들로 생각하면서 머리 위에 성스러운 후광이 있고 무아지경인 상태에서 어딘가를 응시하는 모습으로 그리는 경향이 있지만, 진정한 성인들은 범접하지 못할 사람들이 아닙니다.
그들은 우리와 같은 남성들, 여성들이며, 평범한 삶을 살고 일상적인 문제들로 곤란을 겪기도 하는 사람들입니다.
그들이 성인이 되는 이유는 명확하고 흔들림 없이 하나님과 하나님의 사람들에게 초점을 맞춘다는 사실 때문입니다.
그들이 살아가는 삶의 어떤 부분은 아주 비범하게 보이지만, 대부분은 우리들의 삶과 확실히 비슷합니다.
성인들은 우리들의 형제자매들로서, 그들처럼 되라고 우리를 부릅니다.
