Spiritual courage
Courage is connected with taking risks.
Jumping the Grand Canyon on a motorbike, coming over Niagara Falls in a barrel, walking on a tightrope between the towers of New York's World Trade Centre, or crossing the ocean in a rowing boat are called courageous acts because people risk their lives by doing these things .
But none of these daredevil acts comes from the centre of our being.
They all come from the desire to test our physical limits and to become famous and poplar.
Spiritual courage is completely different.
It is following the deepest desires of our hearts at the risk of losing fame and popularity.
It asks our willingness to lose our temporal lives in order to gain eternal life.
영적인 용기
용기는 위험을 무릅쓰는 것과 연관이 있습니다.
그랜드 캐년을 모터 자전거를 타고 뛰어넘는 것, 통에 담겨서 나이아가라 폭포를 건너가는 것, 뉴욕 세계 무역 센터의 탑 사이에 놓인 팽팽한 줄 위를 걷는 것, 혹은 노젓는 보트를 타고 대양을 건너 가는 것 등은 그 사람들이 자신들의 생명을 걸고 하는 것이기 때문에 용감한 행동이라고 부릅니다.
그러나 이러한 모든 대담무쌍한 행동들 중 어떤 것도 우리의 존재 중심에서 나오는 것이 아닙니다.
그 행동들 모두는 우리 자신들의 육체적 한계를 시험해보이고 유명해져서 인기를 얻으려는 욕구에서 나오는 것입니다.
영적인 용기는 전혀 다른 것입니다.
그 것은 우리의 명성과 인기를 잃어버리는 위험을 감수하더라도 우리 마음의 깊은 소망을 따르는 것입니다.
그 것은 영원한 생명을 얻기 위해서 우리의 일시적인 삶을 기꺼이 잃어버리겠다는 마음을 요구합니다.
