Baptism, Becoming Children of the Light
When Jesus appears for the last time to his diciples, he sends them out into the world, saying: "Go ... make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19).
Jesus offers us baptism as the way to enter into communion with God, Father, Son and Spirit, and to live our lives as God's beloved children. Through baptism we say no to the world.
We declare that we no longer want to remain children of the darkness but want to become children of the light, God's children.
We do not want to escape the world, but we want to live in it without belonging to it.
That is what baptism enables us to do.
세례, 빛의 자녀가 되는 것
예수께서 마지막으로 그의 제자들에게 나타나실 때, 그들을 세상 속으로 보내시면서 이렇게 말씀하십니다: “가서... 모든 민족들을 제자로 삼고, 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주어라”(마태 28:19)
예수께서는 하나님, 곧 아버지와 아들 그리고 성령과 사귐을 시작하는 방법으로, 또한 하나님의 사랑해마지 않는 자녀들로서 삶을 살아가는 방법으로 우리에게 세례를 베푸십니다.
세례를 통하여 우리는 세상에 ‘아니요’ 라고 말합니다.
우리는 더 이상 어두움의 자녀로 남아있고 싶지 않고, 빛의 자녀, 즉 하나님의 자녀가 되고 싶다는 사실을 선언합니다.
우리는 세상을 피해 떠나고 싶은 것이 아니라 그 속에 살면서도 속해있지 않고 싶은 것입니다.
세례를 통하여 우리는 그렇게 할 수 있게 됩니다.
